Just like plants use sunlight to heal and grow, our body is able to harness specific wavelengths of light and turn them into cellular energy. This, in turn, stimulates your body’s natural healing processes. Here’s an article that explains this in more detail.

There’s a robust base of clinical evidence showing light therapy improves skin health and counteracts aging. This article goes deeper on the science and research behind light therapy and skin health.

The clinical research shows that it does. Light therapy increases your ATP energy production in the Leydig cells that produce testosterone, enhancing their natural function. This article has more on light therapy and its impact on testosterone.

Clinical research demonstrates that light therapy has a therapeutic effect on arthritis, inflammation, and general joint health. This article goes deeper into the science behind light therapy and arthritis.

Regarding acne, a 2013 meta-analysis highlighted studies finding red and near infrared light to be effective for the treatment of/reduction of inflammation of acne and boosts collagen production. Of note, it explained that red light impacts sebum production, which contributes to acne, in addition to the control of cytokines, which impacts skin inflammation. Read the study here.

The clinical research on light therapy and thyroid function has found encouraging results. Here’s a high-level overview if you’re interested in learning more.

LASIK eye surgery has the potential to cause light sensitivity. Therefore, when using the Joovv, eye protection is recommended until you have the necessary clearance from your healthcare provider.

Light therapy shouldn’t impact Botox or any other chemical fillers. However, as the collagen production increases in your skin from light therapy treatments, you may find that you no longer need Botox injections. Please consult with your healthcare provider if you have additional questions about using Botox and light therapy.

Clinical studies have shown light therapy to be safe and efficacious. However, if you’re considering using it with children, we recommend consulting with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.

If you are curious about red light therapy or are visiting from out of town, we do offer single sessions.

However, like most services, the effects are cumulative. We recommend daily sessions, if you can, for about 12 weeks to reach optimal results. Maintenance schedule varies from 1-3 times per week.

We know you’ll love it!

Dr. Michael Hambling is one of the world’s leading researchers in photomedicine, and a member of our advisory board. He believes red and NIR light at reasonable power densities (with very little heat) have no effect on silicone breast implants. If you have concerns, we recommend discussing this with your healthcare provider.

Light therapy has been found to stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth in studies and trials. If you’ve received laser hair removal in the past, it’s possible that light therapy could result in hair regrowth. If you have concerns, we recommend reaching out to a laser hair professional.

Photobiomodulation (PBM), or light therapy, is like food for your cells. Unfortunately, most people do not get the proper amount of healthy light their bodies need for optimal wellbeing. Because of this, their bodies may respond with detox-like symptoms. So, if you’re experiencing these types of effects, we recommend starting out with 1-2 minute treatments, slowly working up to standard 10-minute session over the course of 2-3 weeks.

As always, if you have any concerns regarding the use of photobiomodulation, we recommend that you consult with a trusted healthcare provider.

Dr. Michael Hamblin, one of the world’s leading light therapy researchers and a member of Joovv red light therapy’s scientific advisory board, believes red light can actually be very beneficial during pregnancy due to the prevalence of stem cells. However, there is no published clinical literature to support this, so we recommend discussing light therapy with your healthcare provider if you’re pregnant.

You can still get benefits from light therapy while wearing makeup, but for optimal use, we recommend removing it and clearing your skin.
